Speaker: John Kabealo

Webinar Date: September 10th, 2020 @ 11:00 AM EST

Recording: Coming Soon!

In recent months, the U.S. has threatened to and succeeded in blocking a number of foreign investments in U.S. businesses. The recent cases involving TikTok, Grindr and more highlight the extraordinary authority vested in the President of the United States to regulate foreign direct investment. In the U.S., these reviews are conducted by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), a federal, interagency panel that has broad authority to review investments in U.S. businesses and block, suspend or place conditions on investments.

As more countries establish foreign direct investment screening regimes, a review of CFIUS, its authorities and how it functions will provide attendees a working knowledge of how to plan for and address CFIUS issues in investment transactions.

The webinar will cover:

  • What is CFIUS and how does it function?
  • What types of transactions trigger CFIUS jurisdiction?
  • How does the CFIUS process unfold?
  • How should I plan for CFIUS issues?
